My journey with hair products has been traumatic, funny, fun, frustrating and long as hell.
From applying blue magic to me roots after a wash, that would give me the illusion of straightening me roots, to the 1990’s days of thick pink oily lotion of PINK MOISTURIZER , that would leave the collar of my suede bomber absolutely ruined.
And forget sitting down or leaning my head back on the glass partition of the tube. I Would leave a ‘Coming to America Sol glow’ circle of mist wherever I went.
In my 30’s I graduated to a soft ’n’ free curl activator… like I needed curls activating.
A lighter lotion that really did feel good when I was twisting or putting my hair into single plaits, but still too greasy for me, I was probably putting far too much in. I would part my hair into small sections and smooth in the lotion, then plait or twist… I now know this is to be called a protective style. I was doing this instinctively.
I’m gonna take you through my timeline of products another time but for now i’m in the room with Afro Hair Candy: a product that came up on the algorithms of insta. I was drawn to order the whole bundle after I read that they were using natural ancestral recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. I particularly loved the deep moisturizing conditioner and the chebe butter.
